Third, the citizens of the United States do not care about their government because they have a minimalist government. The United States government is very supportive of the capitalists, so many institutions that should be shaded by the state but instead handed over to the private sector. As a result the poverty gap is higher because many entrepreneurs have enormous wealth. These conglomerates are driving the wheels of the country's economy, so the merits of the government are not too influential on the economy.
Every country wants all its people to participate actively in direct elections, as well as this country. Of the three main reasons for abstaining a lot of noise in the United States should not be possible in Indonesia. KPU has a surefire way to reduce the number of abstentions in the grand mat of April yesterday. Proven based on research from the Indonesian Survey Circle (LSI) said that this election was successful when seen from the decline in abstentions. From 28.3 percent in 2009 and 30 percent in 2014, the percentage of abstentions declined in the 2019 presidential election reached a range of 19, 24 percent only.
One of the telling tricks used by the KPU is to make the election day a national holiday. Indonesia itself began direct elections since 2004 where participants can directly elect the president and vice president. History recorded in the first presidential election held in two rounds, because no candidate pair managed to get more than 50 percent of the vote. Until finally Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono emerged victorious after fierce competition with Megawati in the presidential election in the finals. Direct elections continued until the next two times in 2009 by winning the pair Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Boediono, and in 2014 with the name of the pair Joko Widodo and Jusuf Kalla as the winners.
Reflecting on the two mat of the last presidential election, the phenomenon of abstentions became a frightening specter in the country's democratic system. The General Election Commission (KPU) which acts as a jury in every election event always tries and innovates to invite all election participants to actively participate in giving their voting rights. This aims to reduce the high number of abstentions in the last two electoral events. Abstentions are very unfortunate. Interestingly, those who are suspected of being apathetic are young people who have the right to vote or what is now called millennial generation.
Millennial generation is identical with the attitude of indecision and easily carried by the flow of change. In psychology itself, millennial generation is a moment where at that age they are still looking for identity, starting to be separated from the auspices of their parents and slowly entering the world of work which is increasingly fierce competition. Emotional attitudes and idealism tend to dominate at this moment. When he was determined to say something, it was difficult for him to change his mind.
The proportion of millennial population to the total population in Indonesia is quite significant. Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency in the Population Projection Publication of 2010-2035, the percentage of millennials with the age of 20-29 years has reached 16.09 percent. With a percentage of that size can change the final results of the 2019 presidential election yesterday where the difference in vote acquisition between the two rival camps is less than 15 percent. We need to give a thumbs up to the organizers namely the KPU and the mobilization of supporters who are increasingly incessant at the end of the campaign period to unite to voice the importance of the people's voice. One vote can determine the difference. Now the mat is over, leaving a little homework to do. Let's go back to working to warm the office atmosphere, for dynamics like when there were no number one and number two, there was only Indonesia.
