Abstract

  • In March 2020 Tanjungpandan City experienced a deflation of 0.13 percent with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 103.53. Out of 90 CPI cities, 43 cities experienced inflation and 47 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Lhokseumawe by 0.64 percent with CPI of 104.20 and the lowest occurred in Pekanbaru, Surakarta and Surabaya by 0.01 percent. Meanwhile the highest deflation occurred in Timika by 1.91 percent with CPI of 102.79 and the lowest occurred in Tangerang by 0.01 percent with CPI of 104.40.
  • Deflation occurred due to falling prices as indicated by the decline in some indexes of the expenditure group, namely: the transportation group by 2.29 percent. Meanwhile, some other groups experienced inflation, namely the food, beverage and tobacco group by 0.25 percent, the clothing and footwear group by 0.05 percent; housing, water, electricity and household fuel by 0.07 percent; household appliances, equipment and routine maintenance by 0.08 percent; health group of 0.07 percent; recreation, sports, and culture group of 0.07 percent; and the personal care and other services group of 0.4 percent. Education group; information, communication and financial services groups; and the food and beverage / restaurant supply group did not change.
  • The deflation rate for the March 2020 calendar year is 0.87 percent and the year-on-year inflation rate (March 2020 against March 2019) is 1.59 percent.
  • The energy group experienced a 0.03 percent inflation in March 2020, a March 2020 deflation rate of 0.23 percent, and a year-to-year deflation rate (March 2020 against March 2019) of 0.22 percent. The food component in March 2020 experienced inflation of 0.06 percent. The deflation rate of the calendar year foodstuffs group in March 2020 was 2.72 percent and the inflation rate of the foodstuff component year to year (March 2020 to March 2019) was 4.31 percent.
