Abstract

Abstraction
  • In May 2019 there was inflation of 1.78 percent with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 144.79.
  • Inflation occurs because of an increase in prices as indicated by the increase in most expenditure group indices, namely: the foodstuffs group by 5.41 percent; processed foods, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco by 0.74 percent; clothing group at 1.33 percent; health group by 0.17 percent; education, recreation and sports group by 0.01 percent; and the transportation, communication and financial services group of 0.70 percent. While the expenditure group experienced a decline in index, namely the housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel group by 0.01 percent.
  • The inflation rate for the calendar year (January-May) 2019 is 2.20 percent and the year-on-year inflation rate (May 2019 to May 2018) is 4.97 percent.
  • The core component in May 2019 experienced inflation of 0.84 percent; volatile component of inflation of 5.46 percent; and the government regulated component inflation of 0.48 percent.
  • Out of 82 CPI cities, 81 cities experienced inflation and only 1 city experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Tual by 0.86 percent with CPI of 159.00 and the lowest occurred in Kediri by 0.05 percent with CPI of 130.10. While deflation only occurred in Merauke by 0.49 percent with an CPI of 139.44.
