Abstract

In August 2020, Tanjungpandan City experienced deflation of 0.67 percent with a Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 104.42. Of the 90 CPI cities, 37 cities experienced inflation and 53 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Meulaboh at 0.88 percent with a CPI of 107.53 and the lowest occurred in Batam, Kediri, and Kotamobagu at 0.02 percent. Meanwhile, the highest deflation occurred in Kupang at 0.92 percent with the CPI at 102.48 and the lowest occurred in Sibolga, Tembilahan, Bekasi and Banyuwangi with 0.01 percent.
Deflation occurred due to lower prices as indicated by a fall in the index for the expenditure group, namely: the food, beverage and tobacco group by 1.76 percent; clothing and footwear group by 0.01 percent; the housing, water, electricity, and household fuel group of 0.03 percent; and the transportation group by 0.41 percent. Meanwhile, some other expenditure groups experienced an increase, namely: the equipment, equipment and routine household maintenance group by 0.20 percent and the personal care and other services group by 0.44 percent. Health group; information, communication and financial services group; recreational, sports, and cultural groups; education group; and the food and beverage / restaurant supply group did not experience any changes.
The deflation rate for the calendar year for August 2020 is 0.02 percent and the year-on-year inflation rate (August 2020 against August 2019) is 0.52 percent.
The energy group in August 2020 experienced deflation of 0.05 percent with a CPI of 100.40. Meanwhile, the foodstuff component in August 2020 experienced deflation of 2.34 percent with a CPI of 102.07.
