Abstract

The number of labor force in August 2021 was 738.62 thousand people, a decrease of 18.26 thousand people compared to February 2021 and a decrease of 20 people compared to August 2020. The Labor Force Participation Rate (TPAK) decreased by 2.11 percentage points when compared to February 2021 and decreased by 1.01 percentage points when compared to August 2020.
  • The August 2021 Open Unemployment Rate (TPT) was 5.03 percent, down 0.01 percentage point compared to February 2021, and down 0.21 percentage point compared to August 2020.
  • The working population is 701.44 thousand people, a decrease of 17.25 thousand people from February 2021, but an increase of 1.56 thousand people compared to August 2020. Employment fields that experienced the largest percentage increase were the Mining and Quarrying Sector (2.66 percentage points compared to August 2020. February 2021 and 5.44 percentage points compared to August 2020). Meanwhile, the sectors that experienced the biggest decline were the Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Sector (1.88 percentage points compared to February 2021 and 5.79 percentage points compared to August 2020.
  • A total of 357,222 people (50.93 percent) worked in informal activities, up 0.19 percentage point compared to February 2021 and down 2.00 percentage point compared to August 2020.
  • The percentage of underemployed workers fell 1.07 percentage points compared to February 2021 and 3.06 percentage points lower compared to August 2020, while the percentage of part-time workers fell 1.04 percentage points compared to February 2021 and rose 1.65 percentage points compared to August 2020.
  • There are 68,953 people (6.15 percent of the working age population) affected by COVID-19. Consists of unemployment due to COVID-19 (7.28 thousand people), Non-Work Force (BAK) due to COVID-19 (2.74 thousand people), temporarily not working due to COVID-19 (7.32 thousand people), and residents working who experienced a reduction in working hours due to COVID-19 (51.62 thousand people).
